The PRO APF EAL Elevated Approach Light is a versatile, unidirectional LED fixture designed for critical airfield lighting applications. It also meets NATO STANAG 3316 and EC TS 61827 requirements, demonstrating its universal applicability across global aviation regulatory environments.
This elevated LED light is equipped with advanced WaveTrac™ technology, reducing power consumption by up to 60% when compared to traditional incandescent fixtures. It features a high-frequency 400 Hz PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) driver, effectively eliminating visible flicker to enhance pilot visual perception and system compatibility. The EAL is designed to work seamlessly with Thyristor-based Constant Current Regulators (CCRs), supporting operation across 5, 6, or 8 intensity steps as defined by ICAO.
Built for reliability and ease of maintenance, the fixture boasts a projected lifetime exceeding 50,000 hours (L70 at 6.6A). Its rugged cast aluminum housing is aerodynamically shaped for wind resistance, and its lightweight, low-profile design further enhances durability. The light can be installed on a standard 2-inch (50 mm) pipe using a frangible coupling or approach mast, ensuring quick and secure mounting. A precision “aiming” device with digital readout (available separately) facilitates accurate alignment during installation.
The EAL also includes a 10kV/5kA surge protection system to guard against electrical transients and lightning events. An optional arctic kit applies filament heat directly to the glass dome to prevent frost and ice buildup while minimizing energy waste. All LED components and electronics are enclosed in a fully sealed, IP67-rated housing, protecting them from moisture, dust, and harsh environmental conditions. Each unit is shipped fully assembled, streamlining installation and minimizing field labor.
