Digital Wide View and Hallway Occupancy Sensor Solutions with PIR and Acoustic Dual Technology Detection Systems

Digital wide view and hallway occupancy sensors deliver exceptional motion detection performance combined with easy, contractor-friendly installation. Their adaptable mounting methods and versatile digital pairing options allow them to integrate seamlessly with other sensors or control devices, minimizing setup time and maximizing coverage flexibility. Multiple sensors can be linked together to cover large or irregularly shaped spaces such as open offices or long corridors. Built in the USA, these sensors are part of a robust digital control ecosystem that emphasizes reliability, configurability, and long-term performance.

The digital communication network uses a topology-free 3-wire data line, simplifying installation by eliminating the complications associated with CAT-5 systems. Standard 18/3 cable and wire nuts are used for straightforward connections between sensors, load controllers, and wall stations. Each sensor is individually addressable and can be digitally grouped with controllers through one of three configuration methods: single-zone default setup, push-button pairing for multi-zone systems, or mobile app configuration when using an advanced load controller. Once connected, the digital zone can be customized for specific operational preferences, such as occupancy behavior, dimming control, and photocell calibration.

Equipped with the latest passive infrared (PIR) sensing and signal processing technologies, these sensors provide highly responsive and accurate occupancy detection. Optional dual-technology versions incorporate a built-in microphone to detect acoustic activity, making them ideal for spaces with limited motion or visual obstructions. A daylight harvesting photocell option is also available for applications that require light level-based control.

In operation, the sensor detects changes in infrared energy emitted by moving occupants within its field of view. Upon detecting occupancy, it immediately communicates with the paired load controller to switch on or brighten connected lighting. In dual-technology models, the acoustic sensor is enabled simultaneously, ensuring continued responsiveness even when occupants remain still. The sensor periodically updates its occupancy status, allowing the controller to maintain illumination during brief inactivity and automatically return the space to a dimmed or off state when it becomes unoccupied.

A single wide view sensor is ideal for medium-sized environments such as conference rooms or classrooms, while multiple sensors can be grouped for extended coverage in larger spaces like open offices or lecture halls. Dual-technology versions are particularly useful in areas where line of sight is obstructed by partitions or furniture. The hallway variant is optimized for long corridors, detecting motion from either end or across the coverage beams for reliable performance in high-traffic pathways.

When integrated with compatible digital load controllers and remote wall stations, the sensors help meet stringent energy codes including ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, and Title 24. They are commonly deployed in classrooms, offices, conference rooms, hallways, and break areas.

Compact in form and available in white or black matte finishes, the sensor measures 2.875 inches in height, 2.75 inches in width, and 3.25 inches in depth, weighing just 4.75 ounces. Its LED indicators communicate motion detection, pairing status, and communication errors for quick troubleshooting. Electrically, the sensor operates at 15 VDC and draws 8 mA for PIR-only models or 9 mA for dual-technology versions. The three-wire connection supports power, common, and digital data, with a recommended maximum run of 1000 feet point-to-point or 4000 feet total bus length. All communications are digitally encrypted for secure operation.

Environmental specifications include an operating temperature range from 32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C) for standard models, or down to -40°F/C with the -HE option. Relative humidity tolerance is 0–95% non-condensing for indoor use. The sensors’ operating modes, time delay settings, and test features are configured through the paired load controller or via mobile app, with available time delays from one minute up to eight hours. Test functions allow contractors to quickly verify coverage and connectivity during setup.

Wide view models utilize a 120° PIR field, detecting small hand motions up to 40 feet and larger movements up to 70 feet, suitable for mounting heights between 8 and 12 feet. Hallway sensors share the same mounting range but extend large motion detection up to 100 feet, responding faster to movement across the sensor’s beams. Dual-technology versions integrate full acoustic coverage of the PIR zone, activating acoustic detection only after a PIR event and filtering out background noise. After lights turn off, the acoustic function remains active for an additional 15 seconds, allowing voice reactivation for added safety and convenience.

Overall, these digital sensors combine precision motion detection, flexible installation, secure communication, and intelligent integration capabilities—making them an ideal choice for modern commercial lighting control systems requiring dependable occupancy sensing and seamless scalability.
