The 1720LED Villa luminaire is a medium-scale post-top fixture that combines traditional urban styling with advanced LED technology. Featuring a tall, cylindrical body composed of a precision-cast aluminum top and a round lens, the luminaire offers a versatile appearance that can be tailored to suit a variety of architectural and site lighting applications. Its highly configurable design supports multiple styles and optical options, allowing it to deliver visually comfortable symmetrical light distribution or enhanced performance optics depending on the needs of the project. With its balance of classic form and modern engineering, this fixture can be adapted to meet the specifics of any lighting vision.

Durability is at the core of the 1720LED Villa’s design. The housing is constructed from precision cast aluminum components, engineered for long-term reliability. For installations requiring suspension, the fixture supports hang-straight mounting configurations, with both standard and EZ transition options available. A catenary mount configuration is also offered for suspension on aircraft cable, extending its flexibility in urban and decorative applications. The luminaire’s lens system is crafted from injection-molded, non-yellowing acrylic, sealed at both the top and bottom with seamless silicone gaskets to ensure maximum protection against the elements.

The fixture meets stringent performance standards and certifications. It is UL listed per UL1598 and CSA C22.2 No. 250.0 for use in the United States and Canada, and it is suitable for wet locations. In addition, the luminaire carries an IP66 rating, which guarantees superior protection against both dust ingress and water intrusion. This makes the 1720LED Villa highly reliable in outdoor environments where long-term resilience is essential. Sternberg’s six-stage polyester powder coat finish, tested to exceed AAMA 2604, AAMA 2605, and ASTM standards, further ensures durability while offering a refined architectural appearance. Available finishes include standard and custom options, each designed to maintain color consistency and surface integrity in demanding environments.

At the heart of the luminaire is a high-output, high-brightness LED system built on a two-piece assembly consisting of a chip-on-board (COB) LED component and a COB holder frame. The LEDs and printed circuit boards are RoHS compliant, 100% recyclable, and free of hazardous substances such as lead or mercury. To protect against environmental factors, they are coated with a conformal seal ranging from 1 to 3 mils, ensuring resistance to moisture and corrosion. Designed in accordance with IESNA LM-80 testing standards, the LEDs provide a rated life of approximately 100,000 hours with lumen maintenance of at least 70% of the initial output at 25°C. Multiple correlated color temperature (CCT) options are available, ranging from 2700K to 5000K, with a minimum color rendering index (CRI) of 70, and custom CCTs are available upon request.

The optical system can be tailored for precise performance. The TS optic configuration employs a molded silicone refractor directly applied to the COB LED assembly, with an additional vertical diffused acrylic lens inside the unit to enhance visual comfort and reduce glare. For broader applications, the TSL and TAL optics utilize large injection-molded acrylic refractors that distribute light more evenly, creating symmetric or asymmetric patterns as required. All optical performance is validated in accordance with IESNA LM-79 testing standards.

Electronic performance is ensured by an integral UL-recognized driver, mounted securely inside the luminaire to optimize both longevity and efficiency. The driver operates on 50/60 Hz, uses a 0–10V dimming protocol, and includes supplemental surge protection compliant with IEEE/ANSI C62.41.2 guidelines. Engineered for reliability, the driver provides overload, overheating, and short-circuit protection, while maintaining a total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 20% and a power factor above 0.9. A quick-disconnect connector allows for simplified installation and maintenance. For field adjustability, the optional Fixed Dimming Resistor Board (FDRB) includes a numbered 10-step selector, enabling repeatable dimming adjustments from 25% to 100% of the original fixture output.

The luminaire supports a range of control options to meet modern smart-city and energy management requirements. Twist-lock photocontrols can be mounted externally, prewired to the driver, and calibrated to activate at 1.5 footcandles with deactivation between 2 and 3 footcandles. These photocontrols feature a six-year warranty and operate on 120–277V. For more advanced control strategies, the fixture can be equipped with a 5-pin or 7-pin NEMA receptacle, enabling integration into wireless control systems.

Mechanically, the fixture is designed to fit securely on poles using a heavy-wall die-cast aluminum fitter. The fitter is engineered to slip-fit 3-inch (R3) or 4-inch (R4) outside diameter tenons or poles and extends three inches in height. Three stainless steel Allen-head set screws lock the fitter securely in place, while all external hardware is painted to match the fixture housing for a consistent, finished look. Despite its robust construction, the fixture maintains a moderate EPA of 1.1 ft² and a total weight of 37 pounds, balancing durability with ease of installation.

Altogether, the 1720LED Villa luminaire is a versatile and robust solution for urban, architectural, and streetscape environments. Its combination of high-performance LED technology, adaptable optics, advanced electronic driver systems, and durable construction make it well-suited for a wide variety of outdoor lighting applications. With a seven-year limited warranty and field-proven reliability, it represents a strong balance of classic design aesthetics and modern engineering innovation.
