DC Inset Semi-Flush LED Heliport Perimeter Light with Infrared NVG Compatibility

The Pad-Star® DC Inset Semi-Flush – 2nd Generation is the latest evolution in FEC Heliports’ line of high-performance LED lighting systems, specifically engineered for heliport perimeter marking. This newly redesigned inset light is purpose-built to illuminate the perimeter of helipads—covering both TLOF (Touchdown and Lift-Off) and FATO (Final Approach and Takeoff) zones—with unmatched durability, efficiency, and safety compliance. Unlike traditional elevated perimeter lights, the semi-flush inset design is ideal for heliports where lights are vulnerable to frequent contact with rotor wash, ground crew vehicles, or maintenance equipment. Engineered to withstand direct impact and even vehicular rollover, this robust fixture eliminates the risk of light fixture damage in high-traffic operational environments.

Introduced in December 2020 as the second-generation model, the Pad-Star® DC Inset Semi-Flush features a hermetically sealed optical assembly that resists internal condensation, ensuring long-term reliability. Like all Pad-Star series lighting solutions, it comes standard with integrated infrared output for NVG compatibility, enhancing visibility for pilots operating with night vision goggles. The fixture is backed by one of the most comprehensive warranties in the industry, offering 10 years on the fixture body and 3 years on electronics.

Designed with universal compatibility in mind, this unit easily integrates into any existing heliport lighting infrastructure and can be mounted on various standard light bases using an adapter ring. It meets or exceeds all relevant international standards, including FAA EB#87, FAA AC 150/5390-2, ICAO Annex 14 Volume II, UK CAP 437, and UK CAP 1264, ensuring compliance across global aviation sectors. Its energy-efficient LED light source—featuring a single Osram visible LED and three Osram IR diodes—delivers consistent illumination with a rated lifespan exceeding 50,000 hours. Operating on 12/24 VDC supplied via the FEC Controller, the fixture draws just 6 watts at 0.350ma and performs reliably in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to +55°C.

Structurally, the Pad-Star® DC Inset Semi-Flush is engineered from premium materials. The housing is made from rugged 356-T6 aluminum alloy, while the flange is fabricated from 6061-T6, QQ-A-200/8-grade aluminum. All exposed hardware is constructed from corrosion-resistant 18-8 stainless steel, and the optical lens is formed from tempered borosilicate glass. The fixture’s exterior is finished with a hard anodize coating per MIL-A-8625 Type II, Class 1 specifications for superior environmental protection.

In terms of physical dimensions, the light protrudes just 1.0" (25.4 mm) above the surface, with a body diameter tapering from 6.5" to 4.75". The mounting flange measures 10" (254 mm) in diameter and features a precise pattern of eight evenly spaced countersunk holes. The compatible base—crafted from 356-T6 aluminum alloy—has a height of 6 5/8", an outer diameter of 11", and an inner diameter of 8.5". This semi-flush inset design, combined with renewable energy compatibility, simplified installation, and robust construction, makes the Pad-Star® DC Inset Semi-Flush an ideal lighting solution for demanding heliport environments prioritizing safety, performance, and long-term value.
