The CDR Series Retrofit LED Downlights from Cree Lighting offer a highly adaptable and efficient solution for both retrofit and new construction projects. Engineered for easy selection and installation, the CDR Series combines selectable lumen output and correlated color temperature (CCT) options into one versatile product. Each fixture features three selectable lumen settings and three selectable CCTs (3000K, 3500K, and 4000K), enabling users to configure the ideal lighting for any application—all from a single product. Available in 6", 8", and 10" sizes, the CDR Series replaces traditional CFL pin-based lamps and fixtures with high-performance LED technology.
Delivering between 700 and 5,000 lumens, the CDR downlights operate within a power range of 7 to 52 watts, achieving an impressive efficacy of up to 104 lumens per watt. These luminaires utilize Cree’s patented TrueWhite® Technology to provide 90+ CRI with consistent color quality and high R9 values over the life of the product. Designed for demanding environments, the CDR Series is wet-location rated and operates in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +40°C (-4°F to +104°F), making them suitable for a broad range of commercial and residential applications.
The construction of the CDR Series supports long-term reliability and performance. The durable upper housing protects the internal LEDs, driver, and power supply, while an advanced thermal management system efficiently transfers heat away from the fixture to maintain optimal LED junction temperatures—even in insulated ceilings. An included 23.6" (600 mm) conduit simplifies wiring in retrofit and new construction installations. These downlights are compatible with insulated (IC) and non-insulated (non-IC) ceilings depending on the lumen package selected.
The optical system integrates reflective and refractive components to deliver smooth, uniform light with minimal glare, color fringing, or pixelation. The polycarbonate diffusing lens enhances visual comfort by shielding the direct view of LEDs, and a deep reflector design softens the transition between ceiling and lens. The result is balanced light distribution that effectively illuminates horizontal and vertical surfaces, enhancing spatial perception. A 90º beam angle provides wide and even coverage.
Electrically, the CDR Series features an integral, high-efficiency power supply with a power factor above 0.9 and total harmonic distortion below 20% at full load. Operating on a universal 120-277V input, the downlights support 0-10V dimming down to 5%, and are fully compatible with Cree’s SmartCast® Technology and Lutron Vive systems via the 0-10V interface. For best results, lighting controls with a neutral connection or those designed specifically for LED fixtures should be used.
From a compliance standpoint, the CDR Series meets a wide range of regulatory and voluntary standards. These include cETLus listing for wet locations (in covered ceilings), NEMA C82.77 standards, and FCC Part 15, Subpart B Class B limits for both conducted and radiated emissions. The product is CA Title 24 JA8 compliant and requires a minimum 90°C supply conductor. Note that these fixtures are non-plenum rated and are not compatible with Cree’s RR or RC housings or with traditional incandescent housings.
Overall, the CDR Series offers the flexibility of nine downlights in one, reducing inventory complexity while delivering high-performance, field-adjustable lighting that meets stringent energy codes and design preferences across a wide range of applications.
