Contemporary Bollard with Integrated Wayfinding Light for Urban and Commercial Settings

The Stop bollard features a handsome, crisp profile designed to aid in traffic control while maintaining an elegant appearance. Its beveled-edge cast aluminum tapered sleeve provides a sleek, trim cover for an internal structural steel post. Between the top of the post and the sleeve, there is a discreetly housed optional LED light that emits a soft, ambient glow. This glow shines upward, illuminating the inside surface of the sleeve and filling the space between the post and the underside of the ribbon, creating an effective wayfinding marker that can appear up to 5-1/2 inches tall depending on the viewing angle.

The Stop bollard is designed for versatile installation and can be embedded, surface mounted, or removable, with all mounting options sharing the same consistent aesthetic. The sleeve, made of cast aluminum with an integral ring at its base, can be powder coated in a selection of colors to suit different environments, while the internal 4-inch structural steel post is standard matte black and stands 28 inches tall. The total height of the bollard from the ground to the top of the aluminum casting is 34 inches, and all exterior parts are powder coated for durability. For surface-mounted versions, a stainless steel base plate is welded to the steel pipe and anchored securely to concrete, while embedded and removable options include features like tamper-resistant set screws and stainless steel rings or sockets for alignment and security.

Installation methods vary depending on the mounting type. The embedded installation, the strongest and most common method, involves setting the steel post into an 18-inch concrete footing, then slipping the aluminum sleeve over the post and securing it with tamper-resistant set screws. The surface mount option is designed to allow easy installation on existing sites, using a stainless steel base plate anchored to concrete in three locations and leveling glides for precise adjustment. The removable version includes a galvanized socket embedded in concrete, into which the steel post is inserted and locked, allowing for temporary removal while maintaining a consistent look with other mounting styles.

The bollard’s integrated LED light is intended for wayfinding applications, guiding and signaling pedestrians through spaces without projecting light onto the ground or pathways. The light fixture sits at the top of the bollard post and emits approximately 50 lumens of warm white light at 3500K color temperature, consuming about 3 watts of power. It uses the same Acrylite® lens technology found in Hi-Glo and Lo-Glo lights and boasts a long lifespan with an LED rated life of 60,000 hours. Electrical conduit is brought up through the concrete footing and into the bollard post to facilitate installation. The resulting ambient illumination provides an elegant and functional visual marker that enhances safety and navigation in urban and architectural settings.
