The Akoya pendant light has been reintroduced by RBW in a new and improved version, building upon the popularity of one of the brand’s best-selling designs. While it preserves the character of the original, with its hand-blown opal glass globe, the updated Akoya incorporates advanced technical performance and a more precise finish. The perforations in its sheer, spun-aluminum shade have been refined to elevate both the look and the quality of the light. In addition, with the shade now fabricated in North America, the fixture not only supports local craftsmanship but also reduces the carbon footprint by cutting down on transportation during production.
Crafted from hand-blown opal glass paired with perforated metal, Akoya combines timeless materiality with contemporary detailing. The fixture delivers 440 lumens with a modest power consumption of 8.7 watts, offering a luminous efficacy of 50.5 lumens per watt while maintaining a high-quality 90 CRI output. Its performance ensures both efficiency and accurate color rendering, making it suitable for a range of environments.
Certified for safety, the pendant is UL Listed, including compliance with Canadian safety standards, and is rated suitable for damp locations. This makes it an adaptable choice for various applications, including kitchens, bathrooms, and other spaces where humidity may be present. The shade is available in RBW’s signature powder-coated Silk Grey finish, a subtle tone that enhances its understated elegance.
The Akoya offers flexible lighting experiences with multiple color temperature options, including 2700K for a warm glow, 3000K for soft white light, and 3500K for a neutral white tone. Control options have also been expanded to suit different installation needs and preferences. These include dimming capabilities ranging from 10% down to as low as 0.1%, depending on the driver and control system selected. Compatibility extends across TRIAC forward phase dimming at 120V input, as well as universal 0–10V dimming at 120V or 277V with external drivers. A low-voltage version is also available, requiring a separate driver.
Altogether, the reimagined Akoya balances artistry, performance, and sustainability. It is a pendant light that blends refined design with technical sophistication while keeping environmental considerations at the forefront of its production.
