The Frisco series represents a Victorian-inspired acorn luminaire that combines classic architectural elegance with modern LED performance. Each fixture features a decorative cast aluminum fitter, a protective cage, a hinged roof, and a high-efficiency prismatic acrylic acorn. The cage is adorned with four cast aluminum medallions finished in gold, while the acorn is topped with a decorative cast aluminum urn finial, enhancing the luminaire’s timeless, sophisticated aesthetic. This design makes the series ideal for streetscapes, municipal projects, campuses, and other areas where historic styling is desired alongside contemporary illumination.
Constructed for durability, the Frisco series utilizes a sand-cast fitter made from heavy-wall, low-copper aluminum 356 alloy, providing superior corrosion resistance and tensile strength. The fitter incorporates an 8.5-inch inside diameter opening to securely attach to the 8-inch lens neck, using stainless steel Allen-head set screws and a one-piece ring gasket to prevent insect intrusion. Optional die-cast utility fitters are available in low-copper 360 aluminum alloy, featuring hinged, tool-less entry doors for full access to internal components. These utility versions can be equipped with optional terminal blocks, twist-lock photocontrol receptacles, or single GFCI outlets to simplify wiring, auxiliary power access, and field maintenance. A top-mounted driver plate allows quick tool-less removal using finger latches, while the optional twist-lock fitter employs a quarter-turn mechanism for effortless acorn removal and replacement, streamlining servicing and minimizing downtime.
The series is powered by vertically mounted, high-output Chip-on-Board (COB) LEDs that provide full luminaire illumination with controlled uplight for enhanced vertical visibility. These high-brightness LEDs are fully recyclable, RoHS-compliant, and free from hazardous materials such as lead or mercury. Designed for longevity, they maintain over 70% of their initial light output at 25°C for up to 100,000 hours. Color temperature options include 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, and 5000K, with a minimum color rendering index (CRI) of 70, ensuring versatile application across streets, parks, and campuses. Light distributions are available in Type III, IV, and V configurations, tested in accordance with IESNA LM-79 standards, and the luminaire is optionally equipped with an internal 120° house-side shield to control backlight and minimize light pollution.
At the core of the luminaire is a UL-recognized, high-efficiency electronic driver installed integral to the housing. This constant-current driver operates at 50/60Hz, supports 0–10V dimming, and includes built-in protections against overload, overheating, and short circuits. Supplemental surge protection is provided in accordance with IEEE/ANSI C62.41.2 standards. Quick-disconnect connectors simplify power connections during installation and maintenance. Field-adjustable light levels are available via an optional Fixed Dimming Resistor Board (FDRB), a numbered 10-step selector switch allowing repeatable dimming from 25% to 100% of the original output.
The Frisco series offers a wide range of mounting configurations, including wall mount, post-top, single or multi-arm arrangements, mid-mounts, and pier bases. Fitter options include standard slip-fitters, heavy-duty utility fitters, decorative oak-leaf or low-profile styles, and larger tenon sizes for varied pole compatibility. All fitters are sealed with a one-piece gasket and secured with stainless steel hardware, most finishes incorporating a Black Oxide conversion coating, while light-colored finishes receive non-color coated hardware for a cohesive appearance.
Optional control features enhance operational flexibility, including twist-lock photocontrols (120V–277V or 347V–480V), electronic button photocells, shorting caps, seven-pin control receptacles, double fuse and holder assemblies, terminal blocks, GFCI outlets, and internal fixed dimming resistor boards. Photocontrols are pre-wired to the driver and provide instant dusk-to-dawn operation. Twist-lock photocontrols are mounted in the utility fitter with an acrylic window for ambient light reading, featuring a 3–6 second turn-off delay and a six-year warranty. Button-type photocells activate at 1.5 footcandles and deactivate at 2–3 footcandles, offering precise lighting control for street and campus applications.
Decorative options include four cast aluminum 3-inch medallions mounted on a 2.75-inch tall horizontal band with vertical slots, finished in gold or optionally painted to match the fixture. Custom logos are available upon request. A 2.25-inch perforated brass band offers additional aesthetic flexibility. The exterior is finished with Sternberg Lighting’s six-stage polyester powder coat paint system, exceeding AAMA 2604, AAMA 2605, ASTM D523, and ASTM D4214 standards for durability, weather resistance, gloss retention, and color stability. Traditional finishes include Black, White, Park Green, Architectural Medium Bronze, and Dark Bronze, while the Sternberg Select antique-inspired palette offers Old World Gray, Verde Green, Swedish Iron, Weathered Brown, Cedar, Old Iron, and Weathered Black. Two-tone and custom match finishes are available for site-specific coordination.
For smart city readiness, the Frisco series is compatible with Intellistreets® Technology, integrating cameras, audio sensors, and environmental monitoring to transform the luminaire into a connected, future-ready street lighting solution. Fully UL listed to UL1598 and CSA C22.2 No. 250.0, the fixture is suitable for wet locations across the United States and Canada and is backed by a seven-year limited warranty, underscoring Sternberg Lighting’s confidence in its durability, reliability, and performance.
