The W-Modbus product functions as a wireless proxy for connected Modbus RTU devices, effectively extending the communication bus and transforming wired products into wireless ones. Each W-Modbus network comprises a single W-Modbus Gateway connected to a Modbus Client via a Modbus RTU cable, alongside up to 100 W-Modbus Nodes. Each Node connects to a Modbus Server over a standard RTU cable, enabling large-scale installations that can be expanded or modified without adding new cabling runs. The system architecture ensures robust device-to-device communication across a wireless mesh that can cover an entire facility through multiple hops, maintaining stable and consistent data transfer even in complex indoor environments.

The system’s scalability allows the connection of up to 100 Modbus Servers to a single Client, with each hop extending wireless coverage up to 500 meters in line-of-sight conditions—or approximately 50 to 70 meters indoors depending on wall density. The compact, durable housing (W86.0 x H86.0 x D25.5 mm) is constructed from flame-retardant ABS UL94-V0 material and rated to IP40 protection, ensuring safe use in indoor industrial and commercial applications.

Operating within the 2.45 GHz ISM band (2400–2483 MHz), the W-Modbus supports baud rates of 9600, 19200, 38400, and 76800 bps, with one or two stop bits and selectable parity (none or even). It runs on 24 VAC ±15% (50–60 Hz) or 24 VDC ±15% power input, with a maximum consumption of 2.5 W and a 24 V output delivering up to 10 W. An auto-resettable fuse adds protection against power surges. The device withstands ambient operating temperatures from –20°C to +55°C and storage temperatures from –30°C to +80°C, with a relative humidity range of 10–95% non-condensing. Compact and lightweight at only 95 grams, W-Modbus units are easy to install and integrate in space-constrained environments, with push-in terminals suitable for solid or stranded conductors ranging from 0.14 to 0.5 mm² (AWG 24–20).
