Claypaky Xtylos RGB Laser Beam Moving Head Light with Saturated Color Mixing, Virtual CTO, and High-Speed Strobe

The Claypaky Xtylos is a groundbreaking compact beam moving light that revolutionizes stage lighting through the use of a tailor-made RGB laser light source—a technology developed in collaboration with Osram and protected under a pending patent. This proprietary laser engine, housed within a fully sealed and safe module, boasts a lifespan of 20,000 hours with minimal light decay. Unlike traditional discharge lamps that rely on subtractive mixing, the Xtylos generates intensely bright colored beams that are as luminous as white light. This innovation is amplified by a patented optical system that transforms the laser output into a solid, ultra-concentrated, and deeply saturated beam, free from visible hotspots. The fixture’s beam aperture spans from 1° to 7°, with the ability to narrow it further to an ultra-tight 0.5° using beam reducers on the gobo wheel, resulting in pencil-like beams unmatched by any other LED or traditional light source.

Designed for professionals seeking to create unforgettable visual effects, the Xtylos represents a true technological leap rather than a simple evolution of existing fixtures. Its development reflects Claypaky and Osram’s combined expertise in light source innovation and performance. While lasers are often associated with complexity and high cost—typically reserved for video projection—Claypaky has engineered a market-first optical group that makes laser technology safe, reliable, and usable in a versatile, compact entertainment lighting fixture.

In terms of photometric performance, the Xtylos delivers a total luminous output of 2,900 lumens and features a 150mm front lens that drives a highly efficient optical system. The fixture also includes a wide variety of professional-grade dynamic effects, including linear virtual CTO (from 2500K to 6500K), a rotating gobo wheel with seven high-definition, indexable, and replaceable gobos, and a static gobo wheel equipped with five gobos and seven beam reducers. Additionally, it includes a rotating prism disk with convex plane, pyramid (6-facet), and linear (6-facet) options, along with a 16-facet prism capable of bi-directional rotation at variable speeds. The beam can be shaped further with a motorized focus system, while intensity is precisely managed through a 24-bit digital dimmer and high-speed strobe and shutter functions.

The fixture’s movement capabilities include 540° pan and 251° tilt with 16-bit resolution and advanced positioning accuracy (±0.28°). It also features automatic repositioning, selectable speed modes, and mechanical locks for safe handling and transport. Built for practical use in any orientation, the Xtylos is housed in a robust aluminum and steel frame with plastic covers and includes IP20-rated protection and optional accessories like transport handles and a safety chain.

Control and connectivity are made seamless with support for DMX, Art-Net, sACN, and RDM protocols via 5-pin XLR and RJ45 connections. It offers a built-in web server, a graphic LCD display, DMX monitoring, remote RDM access, and CloudIO compatibility. Its single operational mode includes 31 control channels for detailed configuration.

The Xtylos is powered by an electronic auto-ranging power supply (100–240V, 50/60Hz) with active PFC, drawing a maximum of 400VA and supporting mains out up to 1600VA. It features forced ventilation with axial fans and a heat sink for efficient thermal regulation. The fixture is designed to operate in ambient temperatures ranging from -20°C to 40°C, with surface temperatures peaking at 60°C. Total heat dissipation is approximately 1366 BTU/hr.

For regulatory compliance, Claypaky offers a dedicated Laser Variance Program—an online platform that simplifies the variance acquisition process. It guides users through training, online testing, and FDA form submission, making it easier than ever to obtain legal laser usage certifications globally.

With its unmatched output, beam precision, rich feature set, and compact design, the Claypaky Xtylos redefines what’s possible in professional beam lighting—making it a revolutionary tool for lighting designers aiming to push the boundaries of visual impact.
