Engineered with both patient comfort and clinical practicality in mind, the Medica luminaire features independently switchable uplight and downlight operation, allowing flexible lighting control to suit both ambient and task-specific needs. A dimmable downlight enhances comfort for resting patients, while an optional centrally mounted 1W LED night light, housed within the lower downlight compartment, provides soft illumination without disturbing rest.
The luminaire's shallow-depth, extruded aluminium body is paired with die-cast aluminium ends and a curved, sloping top that discourages use as a shelf and helps reduce dust accumulation—critical in healthcare environments. A variant with an integrated back trunking section is also available, enhancing cable management options for wall-mounted hospital lighting installations. All versions are designed for easy cleaning and surface mounting, meeting the hygiene standards expected in patient care areas.
The Medica luminaire delivers excellent lighting performance with an opal diffuser that provides soft, glare-free illumination. Luminous output reaches up to 2 x 3,755 lumens with a maximum LED power of 2 x 38 W and a circuit power of up to 2 x 44 W, achieving an efficacy of up to 91.0 lumens per watt. It emits a 4000 K neutral white light with a CRI of 80+, ensuring accurate color rendering for clinical observation and treatment. With a rated LED life of 50,000 hours (L70/B10), it offers long-term reliability in demanding 24/7 environments.
The luminaire is IP40 rated and available in nominal sizes of 1000 mm and 1300 mm. It is fully compliant with BS EN 60598-2-25, UKCA, and CE standards, and incorporates a light source classified under energy efficiency class C. Uplight is non-dimming, while the downlight is DALI dimmable, providing additional control flexibility for patient comfort and clinical tasks.
