Ayrton Khamsin Profile LED Luminaire: The All-in-One LED Moving Head with Zoom, CMY Mixing, and Artistic Effects

Ayrton continues to redefine professional lighting innovation with the introduction of Khamsin, a powerful profile luminaire that pushes the boundaries of performance and compact design. By ingeniously fitting a 750 W LED module into the sleek form factor of its Ghibli series, Khamsin delivers a 60% increase in light output without sacrificing size or versatility. This was achieved through a complete internal redesign, incorporating cast aluminium sides and a significantly reduced yet highly efficient cooling system. A standout feature is the unique dual rotating gobo wheel mounted on a single axis, enabling striking high-definition morphing effects that expand the creative possibilities for lighting designers.

As with other luminaires in Ayrton’s portfolio, Khamsin is available in two tailored versions. The Khamsin S is optimized for scenic applications, equipped with a robust LED engine that outputs a dazzling 40,000 lumens at a colour temperature of 7000 K. In contrast, the Khamsin TC is engineered for situations demanding precision colour fidelity. It employs a specially developed monochromatic LED source delivering 31,000 lumens, a native CRI exceeding 90, and a colour temperature of 6400 K, making it ideal for broadcast and theatrical use.

Khamsin’s optical system is equally impressive, featuring 13 precision-crafted lenses and a large 158 mm front lens that ensures optimal output. With an 8:1 zoom ratio and a beam range from 7° to 58°, it produces a smooth, flat beam with uniform colour blending—free of hotspots. The fixture’s comprehensive feature set includes a CMY colour mixing system paired with variable CTO correction and a fixed colour wheel with six complementary colours, offering endless options for rich, saturated hues and soft pastels.

The advanced framing system allows the precise positioning of four individually adjustable shutter blades over 100% of the beam surface, enabling accurate beam shaping from any fixture orientation. The gobo system includes two wheels with six high-definition glass gobos each, offering rich textural effects. Users also benefit from a dynamic effects wheel, a fast 15-blade iris diaphragm, two frost filters (light and heavy), and dual rotating prisms—one circular with five facets and one linear with four facets—for layered, immersive visuals.

Khamsin’s movement mechanics deliver ultra-precise pan and tilt (540° and 262° respectively) using high-resolution stepper motors with 8- or 16-bit control. The electronic dimmer allows seamless transitions from 0 to 100% with no colour shifts, while the adjustable strobe offers speeds from 1 to 25 flashes per second. Designed for silent performance, the luminaire includes Ayrton’s advanced liquid cooling system with intelligent fan speed control and selectable Silent Mode, perfect for TV studios and quiet venues.

From a control standpoint, Khamsin supports DMX 512, RDM, ArtNet™, and sACN protocols, and offers stand-alone and Master/Slave modes. It includes an intuitive LCD display interface with jog wheel, as well as remote RDM addressing and configuration. Hardware features include integrated CRMX TiMo™ wireless DMX from LumenRadio™, XLR 5-pin in/out, etherCON RJ45 ports for ArtNet™, and a powerCON TRUE1 input connector.

The fixture’s robust construction uses a combination of aluminium, steel, and fire-retardant ABS-PC materials, ensuring durability in demanding environments. With IP20 protection, handles for transport, and multiple mounting points with Omega brackets, Khamsin is ready for any installation—whether floor-mounted or rigged. It operates in ambient temperatures ranging from -10 °C to 45 °C and maintains optimal performance with a minimum usage distance of 2 meters.

Khamsin represents the pinnacle of compact LED profile spotlights, combining massive output, exceptional optical performance, and an extensive suite of features in a design built to perform flawlessly in arenas, stadiums, and large-scale event spaces.
