The Typology Collection, designed in collaboration with BMW Designworks, reimagines how lighting can shape and elevate the urban landscape. Engineered with intelligence and intention, this collection merges design with utility, enhancing architectural surroundings while intuitively guiding movement through public spaces. Central to the collection is the Typology Stick Light—a groundbreaking lighting solution where the pole itself becomes a continuous, luminous element. These vertical columns of warm white or colored light stand as striking visual markers that define, divide, or unify space. When arranged together, they can sculpt environments with light, forming virtual rooms or rhythmically punctuating a site.
Constructed from custom-extruded 6061 aluminum alloy with a 3.5-inch diameter and a nominal wall thickness of 0.125 inches, each stick light is topped with a cast aluminum driver housing. Frameless, UV-stable acrylic lenses are seamlessly attached to the pole via custom-molded rubber retainers and screws. The hinged billet aluminum baseplate provides easy access to line voltage connections, while all exposed hardware is finished in corrosion-resistant magni-coated steel for long-lasting durability.
Electrically, the Typology Stick Light operates on a surge-protected 120V to 277V 50/60Hz system and supports 0-10V dimming. The fixture performs reliably in temperatures as low as -40°C and is available with an optional ANSI C136.41 twist-lock receptacle. Every Stick Light is shipped fully assembled and pre-wired for straightforward installation.
At the heart of the design are three internally mounted linear LED cartridges—available in staggered lengths of 2, 3, and 4 feet—each offset by 120 degrees within the pole. These emit light through precision-machined vertical slots, illuminating the acrylic lens surfaces to create a vibrant, uniform glow. The cartridges and lenses are easily replaceable, with options for high or low output performance. Light engines are available in 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, and 4000K color temperatures, all with a color rendering index (CRI) of over 90 for excellent color fidelity. The circuit boards used are RoHS compliant.
Mounting is made secure and efficient through the use of a hinged billet aluminum baseplate and four ¾" x 17" galvanized steel anchor bolts. A two-piece cast aluminum circular cover plate provides a clean finish at grade. A mounting template and anchor hardware are included for installation ease.
Available in three different pole heights—10, 13, and 16 feet—the Typology Stick Light not only illuminates but also defines the character of modern public spaces. Whether installed as standalone elements or integrated alongside other Typology Collection pieces like the ribbon bench, these lights serve as both wayfinding tools and artistic features. As an added benefit, the product is Buy America Compliant, supporting domestic manufacturing standards.
