Introducing Slate™, a contemporary flat-profile luminaire series designed to complement today’s architectural and commercial spaces with minimalist style, high performance, and easy integration. With its sleek construction and ultra-slim form factor, Slate is ideal for open-plan offices, high-design environments, and a variety of suspended ceiling types. Combining cost-effective lighting with exceptional visual comfort, Slate delivers both functionality and aesthetics in a seamless lighting solution.
The Slate family includes Slate 1, Slate 2, Slate 3, and Slate 5—each tailored to specific ceiling configurations and installation requirements. These luminaires are compatible with a wide range of acoustic and wood ceiling systems, including Armstrong® WoodWorks® and TURF™, as confirmed by evaluations from Axis Lighting. Designed for seamless ceiling integration, all Slate fixtures install easily using the exclusive Axis Universal Bracket, supporting a variety of ceiling styles and panel configurations.
Slate 1 stands out with its ultra-slim 1 5/16" wide by 2 1/4" deep housing, designed to mount between ceiling slats using the Axis Universal Bracket. With integral drivers and below-ceiling maintenance access, it offers lengths from 2 to 8 feet in 1-foot increments and system run options. Slate 1 also provides the industry’s most extensive optics selection in this form factor, allowing for a wide range of lighting effects and visual aesthetics. Optics include flush and regressed lenses, Micro Louver shielding, and accent modules like Mini Accents and MikroLite® downlights.
The flush lens option features a spotless acrylic lens delivering 200 to 400 lumens per foot, available in color temperatures of 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, or 4000K, and is finished with a flat end cap. The regressed lens, also acrylic, is recessed by 0.5" to reduce glare while providing the same lumen output range and CCT choices. For added shielding, the Micro Louver variant includes black or grey louver options in narrow (60°) or wide (70°) distributions, offering up to 600 lumens per foot with a regressed lens setup.
Mini Accents feature 1" diameter accent modules with beam angle choices of 20° and 35°, delivering 500 lumens per accent. Depending on fixture length, users can choose configurations with three or six accents integrated into a flush lens design. MikroLite® modules come in 4-cell, 8-cell, or 12-cell configurations, producing 500 lumens per 4-cell group and available in black or grey finishes with the same beam angle options. These modules can be combined with the flush lens option for enhanced flexibility and performance.
Slate 2, Slate 3, and Slate 5 extend the design language of Slate into different aperture widths—2", 3 1/4", and 5 1/4"—accommodating a broader range of ceiling conditions. These models feature a flat housing design that is just 1" deep and incorporate a patent-pending single side edge-lit optical system. Outputs for these versions range from 275 to 800 lumens per foot, with CRI options of 80 or 90 and the same CCT range as Slate 1. Snap-on or remote driver configurations are supported, along with system lengths from 2 to 8 feet.
Whether in a standalone or system configuration, Slate luminaires are built with high-quality materials and precise engineering. The housing is made from extruded aluminum containing up to 70% recycled content, paired with die-formed steel brackets and white powder-coated reflectors. The lens is a frosted acrylic design engineered to eliminate glare and hotspots.
Control options for the Slate series are extensive, including Lutron Hi-lume 1% EcoSystem (LDE1), DALI (Types 6 and 8), DMX, and Xitanium SR drivers. Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) compatibility is available with MOLEX, IGOR, and SMARTENGINE systems. All luminaires are UL2108 certified for use with integral or remote drivers. Emergency options include remote battery packs or emergency circuits.
Color performance is assured with minimum CRI options of 80 or 90 and excellent consistency within a 3-step MacAdam ellipse, ensuring uniformity within and across fixtures. LED modules offer a minimum lifetime of 50,000 hours at 85% lumen maintenance in 25°C environments, following IES LM-80 standards. Thermal management is integrated into the aluminum housing to extend component life.
The Slate family is dry and damp rated for indoor applications and operates in ambient temperatures ranging from 0°C to 40°C (32°F to 104°F). With its modularity, design elegance, optical versatility, and broad compatibility with ceiling types, Slate is a flexible, visually refined lighting solution that meets the demands of modern architecture and design.
