Pollux stands out for its versatility and compact design, making it especially effective in diverse settings such as museums, retail spaces, the hospitality industry, and residential environments. A notable feature of the Pollux range is the inclusion of contour spotlights equipped with LEDs. These spotlights use a framing attachment to produce sharply defined beams that can be precisely adjusted to fit the size and shape of images or objects, allowing artworks to appear as if they are glowing from within the frame.
The system also offers oval flood spotlights, which are equipped with freely rotatable Spherolit lenses housed in round luminaire heads. This rotation capability enables precise alignment of the light distribution to suit various display needs and object shapes. Complementing this are zoom spotlights with a continuously adjustable beam diameter that ranges from a narrow 15° spot to a broad 65° wide flood. This feature is particularly advantageous in environments with frequently changing exhibits or merchandise, as it allows quick and seamless adaptation of the light focus.
Pollux luminaires are deliberately designed with small, discreet dimensions that emphasize the light rather than the fixture itself. This compactness is especially beneficial in smaller rooms where unobtrusive lighting solutions are preferred. Moreover, the product line offers an excellent price-performance ratio, delivering energy-efficient lighting that meets fundamental visual comfort requirements without compromising on cost-effectiveness.
At the heart of Pollux’s optical system is the ERCO Spherolit lens, which supports a variety of light distributions including narrow spot, spot, flood, wide flood, extra wide flood, oval flood, and wallwash. The oval flood lens can rotate a full 360°, while zoom spotlights feature a continuously focusable zoom lens available in both round and oval beam shapes, the latter also rotatable through 360°. Contour spotlights come with a rotatable framing attachment made of black polymer and a Fresnel projection lens that is continuously focusable, allowing for crisp beam edges and detailed light shaping.
The LED modules are equipped with high-power LEDs in warm white (2700K or 3000K) and neutral white (3500K or 4000K) color temperatures, paired with collimating lenses made of optical polymer to ensure efficient, precise light output. The luminaires feature cast aluminium powder-coated housings and brackets available in white (RAL9002), black, or silver finishes. They offer tilt adjustment from 0° to 90°, and the bracket mounted on a transadapter can rotate a full 360°, allowing for flexible aiming. Internal wiring is integrated cleanly to maintain a sleek profile.
Pollux offers multiple control gear options, including switchable, phase dimmable with onboard dimming, DALI dimmable, and Casambi Bluetooth configurations. The phase dimmable versions support trailing-edge external dimmers and include a rotary control on the luminaire for brightness adjustment. Integration is seamless via ERCO’s transadapter or DALI transadapter systems.
In practical applications, Pollux spotlights are highly effective at accentuating artwork, products, and architectural details. The recommended tilt angle for such accentuation is approximately 30°, a position that models the object effectively without causing excessive shadows or distortion and reduces shadows cast by observers. Zoom spotlights, whether round or oval, allow manual adjustment of the beam, making them ideal for illuminating smaller or linear works of art with precision and visual comfort. Contour spotlights, using their framing attachments, produce hard-edged, crisply defined beams that create fascinating effects, making pictures appear to emit light from within their frames.
For floodlighting needs, Pollux offers very wide, rotationally or axially symmetrical light distributions, while asymmetrical distributions are employed for highly uniform wallwashing. To achieve even vertical illumination, the Pollux lens wallwashers should be positioned about one third of the room height away from the wall, resulting in an optimal tilt angle of around 35°. This setup ensures uniform light coverage across vertical surfaces, enhancing both functional and aesthetic qualities in the space.
