Hood Pendant is a multifunctional lighting fixture designed to address the challenges of modern open-plan environments by serving as both a light source and an acoustic solution. Conceived by the design group Form Us With Love, the idea originated from a need for flexible lighting and sound absorption above their studio's conference table, where high ceilings and an open layout created acoustic and lighting challenges. The result is a sculptural pendant that helps define more intimate and comfortable zones within large, shared workspaces.
This innovative fixture acts as a sound barrier, reducing ambient noise and fostering a more peaceful and focused atmosphere. Its acoustic properties make it particularly suitable for collaborative spaces like meeting areas and creative studios, where both visual comfort and auditory clarity are essential. The launch of Hood in Swedish-produced wool further enhances its environmental credentials. Wool, a climate-smart and natural material, offers durability, malleability, and fire resistance thanks to its high nitrogen and water content. This sustainable choice quickly became central to the development process.
Hood is built as a modular system, allowing its size and shape to adapt to different spatial needs. The mounting of screen sections is made simple through a single-screw system. In terms of construction, the fixture combines moulded shades in polyester or wool felt—both featuring recycled content—with a structural frame made from black lacquered aluminum. The diffuser is crafted from opal acrylic to provide an even, soft illumination.
There are multiple size options for Hood, ranging from 1200x1200 mm to 1800x3000 mm. Depending on the model, the fixture includes one or more integrated light units, typically installed at each suspension point. In the 1200x1800 mm model, for instance, there are two light units. All units are connected in series, with power supplied through the first in the chain.
Installation is flexible, using an adjustable 2.5-meter wire suspension system. Hood can be delivered with or without a black ceiling cup. For electrical connection, it comes with a halogen-free black cable in two versions: a 5x1 mm² cable for external dimming, or a 3x1 mm² cable for simple on/off control.
The lighting is provided by high-efficiency LED units with a 3000K color temperature and a CRI of 80 (CRI 90 available on request). Each unit is rated for a long lifespan of L90 at 50,000 hours. According to EU regulation 2019/2015, the fixture's energy efficiency class is C.
Weight varies according to size, from 9 kg for the smallest model to 51 kg for the largest. Hood is tested and evaluated according to ISO 354 and ISO 20189 standards for acoustic performance.
