Felicity Smart Infrastructure

Felicity Smart Infrastructure has launched a smart streetlight sensor trial in collaboration with Ausgrid, deploying its patented PowerAID™ technology across selected locations in the Ausgrid network.

The trial is designed to explore how real-time traffic insights can inform dynamic streetlight operation, helping to improve energy efficiency, optimise asset performance, and support the transition to a more sustainable energy system.

PowerAID™ sensors use edge-based artificial intelligence to analyse traffic flow and movement patterns. No images or personal data are recorded or transmitted, ensuring privacy while delivering actionable infrastructure insights.

Early modelling of the lighting profiles suggests potential energy reductions of up to 40% beyond the savings already achieved through LED upgrades, highlighting the opportunity to further optimise streetlighting operations.

Felicity Smart Infrastructure CEO Sean Cowan said the collaboration demonstrates how innovation can deliver meaningful benefits for networks and the communities they serve. “PowerAID™ shows how AI and data can transform public lighting into a responsive, efficient, and sustainable asset. Partnering with Ausgrid allows us to demonstrate this capability at network scale, paving the way for smarter cities and more resilient infrastructure.”

Ausgrid’s Senior Manager Jiri Heider said the trial is an important step in exploring how the network can become more adaptive and efficient. “This trial gives us the opportunity to test data-driven lighting in real-world conditions. It’s a critical step in understanding how our network can respond intelligently to community needs, while maintaining strict safety and privacy standards.”

The trial will monitor energy use, traffic data, and operational performance to inform future applications of smart lighting technology across broader networks.
