LED illuminated handrail and balustrade systems provide guidance, stability or support to facilitate pedestrian mobility and safety. They come with integrated LED lighting systems that deliver functional, accent or path lighting during the hours of darkness.

From illuminating indoor staircases, balconies and ramps to lighting up exterior facilities such as building entrance stairs, walkways, bridges and parks, LED illuminated handrails are versatile enough to adapt to every setting. The balustrade, whether it’s a balcony handrail, stairway handrail or terrace handrail system, can be assembled on classic handrail posts using special pipe sections, and consists of components and accessories such as pipe brackets and adapters, the LED light engine, and protective covers. Classic handrail pipes are available in several shapes: rectangular, square and round, they are made from stainless steel or extruded aluminum.

The light engine is usually a linear LED module or strings of linear modules which are intended to create continuous-row LED systems, although strings of individual LED luminaires are used to form handrail lighting systems as well. The linear LED module is an assembly of LED strip lights which are fully integrated into the aluminum or stainless steel handrail. An impact and UV-resistant extruded acrylic or polycarbonate lens snaps into place to protect the LED module and provide light diffusion if necessary. LED handrail lights are available in symmetrical and asymmetrical light distribution patterns.

The LED module is operated by integral or remote power supplies which provide tight line and load regulation and integrate with motion sensors and photosensors for automated light delivery.
